The Orchestra: Lesson idea around music and feelings

The Orchestra is a hand-drawn animated short film directed by award-winning Australian director and animator Mikey Hill .

Imagine a world where a band of little musicians follows you around and plays a soundtrack to your life, thus communicating your emotions, fears and hopes. In this world lives the elderly Vernon, a lonely man whose crippling shyness causes his orchestra musicians to cheat horribly. When Vernon and his small band fall in love with their new neighbor and her classical ensemble, they may get their last chance at happiness - a chance to strike a chord and play in harmony. But first they have to face their stage fright.

The incredibly complex and astonishing score was composed by Jamie Messenger. Main animation was done by Andrew Bowler, Peter Lowey and Mikey Hill. Beautiful, light-filled design and background art was done by Jason Pamment. The short film was produced by Feather Films Pty Ltd and financed by Screen Australia.
