Themed tour Hatsjoe… health: About health, hygiene and pandemics in Roman times

There is no denying that Covid-19 is having an unprecedented impact on our society. The Romans too were repeatedly plagued by ruthless epidemics. Based on the attributes of the Roman physician Galenus and the Goddess Hygieia, we take young and old back to Antiquity. You will learn how and where epidemics could arise and how people tried to avoid them.

We also explain why all kinds of remedies such as religion, mythology, herbal medicine, but also pure quackery simply existed side by side. In addition, we also discuss the disastrous consequences of these disease plagues for the entire empire, from innovative infrastructure works such as sewers, wells and bathhouses to the increasing presence of Germanic people within the Roman empire.
