Flemish Olympiads for Natural Sciences
The competitions are inter-school and participation is on an individual basis. They consist of a first and second round and a final. (There is no final round in the Junior Olympiad Natural Sciences). Prior to the final, internship days are organized to prepare the students. The final consists of a theoretical exam and practical tests. No internship is organized at the Flemish Geography Olympiad, but the final does last three consecutive days.
The finalists and medal winners will be honored during the solemn proclamation and award ceremony and it will be announced who will represent Flanders at the International Olympiads in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography.
The common thread throughout the organization is to generate interest among students in the fascinating world of science, to give recognition to both students and teachers and to strive for high-quality science education.
That is why the questions and answers from the past first rounds are made available on the website under the subject areas . These question banks allow teachers to get ideas when designing their lessons, tests and exams. Students can also prepare for the various Olympiads on the usolv-it learning platform .
With the two target groups in mind, the students on the one hand and the teachers on the other, the following mission was drawn up:
Organizing the Flemish Olympiads for Natural Sciences in a contemporary manner so that, on the one hand, more boys and girls from secondary education delve into the exact sciences and, on the other hand, to support science teachers in science teaching.
To give that mission extra strength, the honorary title OlympiadSchool Sciences has also been awarded to schools since 2012.
